Fear Of Failure
The fear of failure is a very common issue which often deters people from achieving the success they want and are capable of having.
In order to create true success in your life and attain your dreams and
goals
, conquering your fear of failure is essential.
So, how do we do this? There is no one who truly enjoys failing, and if this happens repeatedly, it can bring our self-confidence to an all time low.
First, let’s take a look at some very famous people who failed miserably:
- Abraham Lincoln lost six elections before being elected to office.
- Henry Ford went bankrupt five times before succeeding with his automobile company.
- When Thomas Edison was a child he was told by his teacher that was too stupid to learn anything.
- Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because, he was told, he lacked creativity.
- Einstein did not speak until he was four years old. He was told by his teachers that he would never amount to much, and was also advised to drop out of High School.
- Dr. Seuss’ had his first book rejected by publishers 43 times before it was published in 1937.
- Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.
- Steven Spielberg applied to USC Cinema School twice and was turned down both times.
- Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times.
What do these people all have in common? Their common denominator is that they overcame their fear of failure, and persevered until they succeeded. If any had succumbed to a fear of failing, they would not have succeeded as they did. Each of these great people had to put any fear aside to reach their goals. They treated every failure as an opportunity to learn, and to try again. We must look at failure as what it really is, a temporary setback, and an opportunity to get it right the next time. When we look at failure in this way, it is much easier to overcome any fear of failing that we hold. We must always remember that the more opportunities we give ourselves to fail, the more we learn, grow, and are able to experience a fulfilling and healthy life.
